How To Know I Am Saved - III
It Is So Important To Know For Sure
What/Who Are You Putting Your Trust In
It Is The Difference Between Heaven And Hell
It is so hard for us to even imagine how great a love God has for us that He would give His only begotten Son to be sacrificed on a cross to shed His precious blood so we could be cleansed and have eternal life with Him. There is power in that blood and we should never doubt it since it is applied to our sin.
It is ironic when one contemplates the situation that exists today in the subject matter about salvation for the people of the world. There are many people who are certain they are saved, and are not. There are some who are saved but lack the confidence that they are saved. So to be assured of salvation is to be able to see the whole picture and evidence of salvation. Where are we to look for that evidence? God's Word is the only place to start. Whatever He promised He will do.
Believers are justified by believing in Jesus Christ and through sanctification they grow in the knowledge of Him. Those who are not growing are regressing (backsliding) and through spiritual discernment know that something is wrong and will start doubting their salvation. Their justification was complete, but their sanctification never took root because they were not doing anything godly that would cause them to grow spiritually.
Questions To Consider
1. Did you hear and understand the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ to the extent that your faith was sufficient for you to trust Christ for your salvation?
Apostle Paul told us in Romans chapter 10 in verse 13 "that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" but he went on to say in the next verse, "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? It is important for you to know that it was sin just like yours that Christ came to this world to take away by the blood He sacrificed on the cross, and by believing on Him, you can be forgiven of those sins. Hear the gospel, receive the gift of life.
2. Did you pray for your salvation, or did you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation?
(Preachers can pray for you to be saved but that is not enough for your salvation because they cannot repent and believe for you to receive salvation, for you alone must repent (change your mind) and belief comes from your own heart, your salvation is entirely between you and God from your trust that Christ's death on the cross and subsequent resurrection from the dead was sufficient to save you from your sin). He is the Son of God.
3. Is what confidence you do have of your salvation, in the works that you do?
Beware of this confidence because those who have not believed often do good things, and remember that salvation comes by faith, not of works, it is a gift of God (Eph.2:8-9). Know this, the second you sincerely believe on the Lord Jesus Christ you are instantly justified and declared righteous, and now through sanctification you can start to grow ( Rom.5:1, Gal.3:24, Titus 3:7, 1 Cor.1:18, 1 Thes.5:23).
4 Do you have a new interest in your Bible? Do you have a desire to explore God's Word and share what you learn with others? Do you have a burden for the lost? Do you have a regular prayer schedule? These are actions of a Christian.
5. Is your speech like everyone else out in the world?
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Cor.5:17).
6. Are you one who has never been convicted or disciplined by God for anything?
For the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes each one He accepts as His child. If God doesn't discipline you as He does all of His children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really His children at all (Heb.12:6, 8).
A wise man feareth, and departeth
from evil: but the fool rageth, and
is confident. (Proverbs 14:16).
